ESP was all the rage in the 1970's and 1980's. Extra Sensory Perception was popularised by Uri Geller who was an illusionist who claimed to have psychokinesis and psychic powers. He became famous bending spoons and stopping clocks without touching them and by using his 'mind-powers' alone. In my adolescence I was attracted to such mystifying capabilities of the mind that I thought that I could do it if I concentrated intensely enough. My endeavours in psychokinesis went no where as far as moving things by simply staring at them or waving my hand but it did cultivate my curioursity about 'mind-powers' above and beyond the obvious. Later this attraction drew me to spirituality and the quest for enlightenment.
ESP is a faculty of the mind recognised in Rehnadee Shum and is employed in meditation to explore the mystical realms within the mind. In Rehnadee Shum ESP is an evolute of the Sense-of-I, which is what we use to perceive everything that happens around us in the world as well as in the mind. Rehnadee Shum meditations aim to develop the Sense-of-I, which in its most basic form is called 'Naa,' which is the sense that creates the perception that 'I am my body'. Naa evolves through stages of meditation to its ultimate state of VaNa'amm which is the perception that 'I am the soul.'
